Project Zomboid Map & Base Guides

Build 42 rebuilt Knox Country from the ground up: the playable map roughly doubled in size, three towns were added, and hundreds of new basements were scattered across the county. This section covers where to settle, how power actually reaches your base, and how the new map fits together.

Most base-building questions in Project Zomboid come down to three decisions: where to settle, how to power the base without drawing zombies, and how long that power will last. The six guides below answer those in order — starting with the shape of the map itself and ending with the basement network hidden underneath it.

This section exists because Build 42's map rebuild changed the answer to nearly all of these questions at once. A base location that worked well in Build 41 can sit inside a totally different neighborhood now that surrounding buildings were individually redesigned; a generator placement that used to be safe might now sit closer to a rebuilt, occupied structure next door. Treat these six guides as a matched set rather than one-off references — base selection, power planning, and basement scouting all draw on the same underlying map data, cross-checked against the current Build 42 stable release.

Pick a location on the best base locations page, confirm your build's power footprint on the generator range page, then budget fuel or plan a solar transition on the fuel & solar page.
